Join Technical Director of Graphics Brian Karis and Special Projects Art Director Jerome Platteaux (filmed in March 2020) for an in-depth look at “Lumen in the Land of Nanite” – a real-time demonstration running live on PlayStation 5 showcasing two new core technologies that will debut in UE5: Nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry, which frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see, and Lumen, a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes.

Also present in the demo are next-gen features already available in Unreal Engine 4.25, such as Niagara VFX improvements, Chaos physics and destruction, animation system enhancements, and audio advancements. Unreal Engine 4.25 also includes support for next-gen consoles.

  1. I watched this demo as a very high-quality film. I never thought that in real time it is possible to process such an amount of information. And can you tell me what should be the requirements of a PC to run such a charm? Greetings from Russia

  2. I would very much like "Lumen in the Land of Nanite" to become a real game, the gameplay itself resembles the genre of a room game
    Prince of Persia (a continuation of which I would also like 🙁 )
    The heroine herself is very beautiful and quite original, I also liked that this demo has magic (which I also like)

That's why I never buy a game, because they put so much detail on the environment less the character (in all their games), their characters still look fake and their surroundings are amazing, that detracts from the visual experience of what you want to achieve, if they improve that they have surely your earnings will increase more than expected, is a constructive advice or criticism from someone who has been waiting for YEARS for that, take it into account

  4. I wonder what the limits are to this engine. I hope to see a fun video on what this engine can max out on. Can it handle smashing a million triangle model to pieces with the physics being used to simulate the chunks hitting the surfaces around them, along with the particles of dust and such interacting with the area around them and moving fluidly around things? Can it handle a load of AI Agents made of millions of triangles themselves, in a room of millions more triangles, with particles and other such things with the lighting? Can it do the same in an open environment where the background is busy with its own chaos?

  5. Dat resolution… I understand the going mainstream approach but leaving that just to the character design and running it on a pc would have provided a better demonstration

  6. Everything looks stunning! Except the cartoony character 😂 and also those colored flags which look solid hard and dom't move.. 😜

For anyone saying the character model looks fake compared to the environment or she looks too cartoony, not real, etc. That was a design CHOICE not a limitation, I believe it was an homage to Fortnite(which literally made the company BILLIONS), I am sure you can design photo-realistic characters in UE5! Let's just hope they don't move like puppets and we finally get lifelike animations, motion, movement, etc…

  8. All looks beautiful, the biggest letdown though is the character. Doesn't look as realistic as the surrounding terrain. Abit of ashame

  9. there's a point where you've got to ask if they can get more realistic. Like seriously, there will be a point where it is so detailed that it becomes unrealistic. Then we will no longer compare systems based on the quality of their graphics, but rather on the quality of their gameplay.

  10. What performance benefits will we see compared to unreal engine 4, i mean the graphics is going to be so much better but will it take less performance or higher? how does it work? i mean will we see better graphics and better fps at thje same time compared to the other engines?

  11. Nobody is mentioning this goddamn motion blur? Why aren´t we first getting to 60 fps and then increase the resolution. I mean common, this looks gorgeous when standing still, but goes blurry everytime something moves

  12. Great, even slower FPS. What is wrong with people's brains nowdays?

    I just played Doom and ID Tech is just so smooth and fast compared to Unreal Engine games. Genuine user feedback.

    I now fear the worst with the focus on graphics over frame rate…

    How about using technology improvements to stretch FPS in gameplay rather than graphics? 😡
